UX RESEARCH MANAGER

 Lead the growth of Alexa international research into a scalable system for predicting customer acceptance in new countries and for new devices. Also led the research program and staff for Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon B2B Seller-related tools and technologies. Scaled the team’s capacity for evaluative and generative research with tools and training.

SAP C-SUITE DESIGN SERVICES

DESIGN RESEARCH LEAD

Evolved SAP’s fundamental approach to software design with top-down support. Co-designed and moderated a user-centered training based on the IDEO process – now a core aspect of SAP’s global design training curriculum. Co-created subset of material for “Software Design Experiences” course at Stanford d.school. Mentored interns from Stanford d.school and IIT Institute of Design. 

2015-2017

FOXCONN

DIRECTOR OF USER RESEARCH

Established data-driven research strategy across three brands (Nokia, Sharp, InFocus). Built/managed/mentored team of researchers and design technologists. Conducted and reported brand research in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, India, UK, US. Conducted strategic competitive analyses to differentiate product features & functionality. Introduced documentation and archiving standards on a customized CMS (Alfresco).

2013-2014

GE DIGITAL

PRINCIPAL DESIGN RESEARCHER

Researched trust-building mechanisms for GE Aviation customers, supported by journey mapping of all aspects of the engine leasing lifecycle. Led exploratory research and co-design activities in a workshop setting with GE Aviation and customer stakeholders. Improved change management across GE divisions through UX contributions to Fastworks

lean agile processes.

2007-2011

SENIOR USER RESEARCHER

Established generative research practices, research analysis & synthesis, persona development, and persona storytelling presentations for the User Experience team. Foundational contributions to the Developer Platform through a global survey, rapid iterative user research, problem framing and defining opportunities. Developed a research media library for internal self-service. Also, some noteworthy industry conference activity.

2014-2015

SPLUNK

USER RESEARCH LEAD

Led a robust research program to deliver the first sets of user-centered insights to product teams. Lead first ethnographic field research visits for the company. Impacted the roadmap for the Splunk Enterprise Security and Operational Intelligence products. Managed vendors for overflow usability testing on other product lines.

Mentored and managed a team of 3 researchers and service designers. Liaised with other functional leaders to implement and scale operational best practices and collaborative planning with product partners. Established the first embedded research program for an emerging product vertical accustomed to a lean, horizontal support model. Conducted strategic, foundational research for a new product category.
